The permanent secretariat of the Child Friendly Cities Program made public the resolution recognizing the work of the municipalities in favor of the rights of children and adolescents with the seal of recognition of the Child Friendly Cities 2016-2020, granting said distinction to 55 municipalities that receive it for the first time, and renewing other 25.
Eleven Asturian municipalities they get the first time stamp of recognition of Child Friendly Cities 2016-2020: Carreño, Coaña, Pravia, Illas, Sobrescobio, Gijón, Oviedo, Noreña, Llanera, Grado and Ribadesella. Two renew it, Salas and Castrillón.
In total, 170 are the populations that make up the network of Child Friendly Cities. The Permanent Secretariat of the Child Friendly Cities Program has also awarded 44 distinctions of the VIII Best Practices Contest, a contest in which exemplary projects or actions in favor of children and adolescents are recognized, carried out by local governments and other public and private entities. In the relationship are also Parres, Colunga and Piloña.
This program is promoted by UNICEF Spanish Committee, the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality, the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) and the University Institute of Needs and Rights of Children and Adolescents (IUNDIA). The objective is to design and implement effective public policies to improve the welfare of children, defending their rights, encouraging their participation and making cities more livable environments, especially for the youngest.
